Navigate offline can be very hand when you are travelling and have limited access to internet, or when you are low on your data plan, but does not matter the reason this is a cool function to know.!
While the offline maps can help you navegate when internet is not available, it is important to remember that if you are driving off-line, you won’t get traffic and transit info, alternative routes or any other traffic guidance. Also, bicycling, or walking directions are unavailable offline.

Make sure you have the latest version of the Google Maps app installed on your device. (Phone or Tablet) You can update it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
Connect to the Internet
To download maps for offline use, you’ll need an internet connection initially.
Select an Area
Open Google Maps and search for the area you want to download. This could be a city, a specific region, or an entire country.
Download the Map
On Android
- Search for the area you want to download.
- Tap on the name or address at the bottom.
- Tap on “Download offline map.”
- OR
- Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner
- Select “Download offline map.”
- Tap Select your own map
On iOS
- Search for the area you want to download.
- Tap on the name or address at the bottom.
- Tap on “Download offline map.”
- OR
- Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner
- Select “Download offline map.”
- Tap Select your own map
Adjust the Area
You can adjust the area you want to download by zooming in or out and dragging the map to cover the desired region.
Download and Save
Once you’ve selected the desired area, tap the “Download” button. The map will start downloading. Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi to avoid using your cellular data.
Access Offline Maps
After the download is complete, you can access your offline maps by opening Google Maps and tapping on your profile picture or initials in the search bar. Then, select “Offline maps” from the menu. Here, you’ll find your downloaded maps
Note: Remember that downloaded maps might have a time limit before they need to be updated, and there might be limitations on the level of detail available offline. Also, downloading maps for offline use could take up storage space on your device.
